Sports

Physical Education is an integral part of the curriculum offered in Blakestown. Each student is timetabled for two periods per week and is expected to attend unless medically excused.

Aim

Our aim at Blakestown Community School is to encourage and enhance the physical, mental, emotional, and social development of each student through a variety of sport and recreational activities. Within our lessons we strive to promote positive attitudes towards sustaining an active and healthy lifestyle.

Facilities

Our facilities include a sports hall, all weather pitch and a fitness/table tennis area which are utilised by all students.

Extra-curricular activities

Extra- curricular activities are essential to enhancing a student’s learning experience. Traditionally we have had a good level of participation in sports teams and have seen some great success over the years. All students have the opportunity to get involved in sports such as basketball, soccer, gaelic football, camogie, badminton, dance and athletics. There is also a ‘girls only’ activity club – Exercise Energise – where girls take up a new physical activity. One group won the Fingal Hip-Hop Dance challenge 2010.
